The TTM squeeze is the trade that is promoted by John Carter. It stands for Trading The Markets(TTM). If the you read Carter’s book called Mastering the Trade, you will see a more in-depth explanation on the TTM squeeze. Honestly, most people that I know that have tried to use the TTM squeeze get mixed results, yet these are people that have had years of successful trading. It is not like these were individuals that lacked dedication or discipline. The main complaint I hear is that the indicator misses a lot of big moves. This is puzzling because the whole purpose of the indicator is to catch breakouts during low volatility. Now, one could posit that it may miss moves, but the ones it catches are the really big moves. However, it does not seem to be the case.
If this indicator worked as advertised, it would be a great tool to combine with MRT. I say this because the TTM squeeze would be used to snatch profits from trades that blast away from the mean, and when they became overextended one could do a MRT back to the mean. Thus, one would profit from both ends. When I was reading Master the Trade this was my vision: A cycle of profits that was achieved by trading away from the mean and reverting back to the mean. This vision has not been realized. However, if anyone has had any good results with the TTM squeeze let me know know.
I am especially intrigued with anyone that has been able to combine the TTM squeeze to cycle trades away from the mean using the TTM and back to the mean with MRT on the same underlying. That would be the dream because it make it that one is profiting in low volatility environments without selling credit spreads or iron condors, and also profiting in overextended environments: The best of both worlds.
Yes I’ve done some back testing on the TTM and it’s not that good in this current trading environment.
